I have always used The Antipodes to refer to Australia and New Zealand. I have even used the term Antipodeans a time or two, to refer to people living there.
But antipodes actually means the other side of the world of any place on Earth. So each place has an antipodes (or is that antipode?). Most of them are in the ocean but on this site, you can find the exact antipodes of where you are. It’s rather fun, but I never managed to hit land, no matter how many of my lifetime’s different address I entered. That shows you how much of our world is water!
I always had an inkling of what antipodes were, but thanks for clarifying it. Now when NYC gets too much I know exactly where to go for alone time.
