The difference between a Budgie and a Parakeet?

Until I saw the video below, I had never realized that they are one and the same. Apparently they are called Parakeets in the US and a Budgerigar or Budgie everywhere else. Who knew!

  1. Well, in fact, no. In my language (Dutch) they are called ‘parkiet’, which is pronounced the same as parakeet, be it a slightly different spelling. I wouldn’t be surprised if this would be due to early Dutch influence in the US. (I am Flemish BTW, but we share the same language.)
