Last year I wore dresses from late spring to early autumn and loved it. Dresses are really easy to wear and cooler in hot weather. I always find the switch to floaty fabric and bare or stockinged legs hard to make though, because I get so used to wearing trousers and jumpers in the cold weather.
This year’s spring was not really warm enough, and was also really windy, which is not good if you like wrap dresses! Not to mention that I have been mostly at home so dressed in loose cotton knit tracksuit pants on the bottom and smart shirts on the top for Skype.
I was able to change over to dresses on the 1st June though. It felt right because that date is, to me anyway, the first day of summer.
This year I was looking forward to wearing this long black and white wrap dress with slight ruffles at the edges and hem. It is by Columbian designer Johanna Ortiz for H and M and I got it on sale.
Wrap dresses are a fashion miracle. They suit all shapes and are very comfortable and flattering. If you are out of proportion, dresses often fit only the top or bottom half of your body. Wrap dresses are adjustable so they fit various configurations of boob/waist/hip size. They are also flattering no matter your shape, and work well for business and private, for formal and informal. I dress mine up and down with jewellery. You can put them on without messing up your hair and makeup. You can gain or lose a few pounds, feel bloated, and they still fit and look great.
The only enemy of a wrap dress can be unwrapping around the thighs due to wind or sometimes sitting down. But in my life that has happened only once or twice.
This is another H and M wrap dress that I adored, but it sold out before I could buy one. Instead I have a sheath version which does not look nearly as nice. With H and M you have to pounce when you find something you like!
I’ve got this dress but can’t for the life of me work out how to tie it….should there be a hole in the seem somewhere or a loop?
You can usually find a hole in the seam, or else there is a tie inside the dress and one outside.
That’s very pretty. I wish wrap dresses worked on me, but I have no waist – and the damn things always end up blowing open at inopportune moments! I have gone back to wearing dresses after 20coughcoughcough years of trousers for work – and have found two or three sellers on Etsy who do off-beat steampunky clothes in big sizes!
Oh I love the one you sent me the link for!
I’ve got another I’ll send you a link to – she does a lot of linen stuff. I have one on the way from the seller I first found – she was having a sale and had discounted one of my favourite dresses of hers!
