Last weekend we spend an afternoon giving my beloved Scottish chest of drawers some loving care. My carpenter grandfather made this in the 1920s. The central drawer was apparently for a top hat.
My husband took out all the drawers and put everything back into alignment. It was made by hand with very few nails so almost everything slots into place.
We took off some marks, oiled it twice and removed and polished all the hardware. The brassware was very tarnished so it took 3 doses of polish on each piece to get it all shiny.
Here are some other Scottish chests of drawers, some of them far older than mine.
