One of my favourite television shows during my teens and twenties was Magnum P.I. It was broadcast at 7pm on Saturday night and the whole family would watch it together. The relationship between Thomas Magnum (Tom Selleck) and Jonathan Quayle Higgins III (John Hillerman) was my favourite part of the show. And of course Zeus and Apollo!
I was sad to hear of the death of John Hillerman the day before yesterday. He was 84. I guess all the stars of those wonderful detective series from the 1970s and early 1980s will be passing away in greater numbers from now on. I may be biased but I think that was the best era for detective shows. They don’t make them like that anymore!

Thank you for bringing back the memories of great tv shows. I would like to add Mod Squad which was also one of my favorites. Peggy Lipton was so hip and i had such a crush on Michael Cole.
The list of shows has brought back many I had forgotten about. My two all time favourites are The Rockford Files and Kojak. Oh and not forgetting McCloud! I can still see him riding his horse with full western saddle along Broadway! “There you go!” was one of his catch phrases that I remember, in that wonderful Texan drawl. I wonder how much of our love for these shows is accounted for by the usually wonderful themes tunes?
