Could you please tell me what words are printed just above Tobacco on the pipe tobacco ad? I have been trying to find the kind of pipe tobacco that my Grandfather smoked. It smelled wonderful!! Perhaps this is it! Thanks! I recognize everything on the page except the phone contraption?? I don’t believe I’ve seen anything like that here in the United States. Fun stuff, Janet!!
Piet Retief is written above the word Tobacco. Yes those phones were very common – you ‘wound them up’ so to speak to get to the operator and then you gave the operator your number. That is why there is no dial!
