I miss Jacaranda

One thing I do miss from South Africa is the flowers. The Namaqualand at flower time, Strelitzia, the Hibiscus, the Bougainvillaea, the Protea, and most of all the Jacaranda. I love purple so I really love Jacaranda. It is not fun when you are barefoot and stand on a bee feasting in a fallen blossom, but otherwise, it always takes my breath away.

Pretoria, where my brother lives, is famed for its Jacaranda trees, but there are plenty in my home town of Grahamstown as well.

None of these are my photos.

  1. Your Africa posts always haunt me. I think once it’s in your blood, Africa will always be with you.

On flowers, when I was young we spent a lot of time in Jamaica. I remember all the flowers. Especially the bougainvillea… whole hedges of it. Festooned in pink blossoms.
