eBay – low prices but high postage

One thing to look out for on eBay is sellers with low prices for their items but too-high postage. It used to be a way of making more money but at the same time paying less in fees as postage costs didn’t attract a fee. I think eBay changed that rule but people still do it – I think many people look at the price of the item but not the shipping and get caught out that way.

I certainly hope this one is a slip of the finger rather than an actual shipping price…

  1. I totally agree. It is also something to watch out for when selling on ebay! I have actually lost money several times now because ebay’s “estimated” cost to ship was what I listed for the buyer to pay, trying to be fair and reasonable. Then when I took items to the post office to mail to my buyer, I ended up paying as much or more to ship it as I made on the sale. This is one reason why I am now giving items away to charity resale shops in my neighborhood. I make more counting as a tax deduction with the USA’s yearly Internal Revenue Service filing than trying to sell online.

  2. I was recently looking f9or an adjustable 6 hole punch and found one for $12, which I thought was a good price – well, yes it was until I discovered that they wanted $78 for shipping from China to Australia.
