The wooden table in my photographs

Someone commented on the table I use to take many of my photographs – like this one for example.

The table is about 15 years old and comes from Zimbabwe. It is carved from a single piece of wood – I am not sure what kind. It cost £10, though we paid the carver more as it felt so wrong to take so little money for something that took so much work (he made them while he waited for sales so buyers could see the process).

    1. The craftsman did tell me but I forgot, unfortunately. It is gorgeous wood though – I never treat it and it looks really good, even in Sweden where the air gets really dry in winter. In the beginning I used to oil it with linseed oil but then I stopped.

  1. Wow – that is a fantastic piece of work. It looks like it would be lovely to touch. I love handmade wooden furniture, my dad is a cabinet maker and used to have his own workshop which I loved to go in as the smell of the different types of wood is utterly wonderful 🙂
