Without looking properly at the article I can imagine it is because maybe there is a looooong time between December and January paydays, all the festive decorations are down – leaving behind them just gloom and darkness. The shops aren’t full of spring clothes yet because all the droopy and tired remnants from the winter sales are still taking up space. Maybe people still feel fat after the indulgences of the festive seasons but the diet/gym New Year’s resolutions have already been left by the wayside, together with the stop smoking/stop drinking/save money ones. It could seem like a long time until spring and Easter and the next holiday or payday.
Well, for whatever reason we survived and it’s a long way until the next ‘real’ one!
