My hairdresser told me I was overusing protein on my hair, and that it needed moisture. She told me the signs, and I immediately forgot them, just as I always forget what my blood type is. She told me about the ‘hair in a glass of water test’ and I forgot that too. I have never gone deeply into it, and if my hair feels overloaded or flat, I generally just change shampoo.
I looked the water glass test up today, though, and this is what I found.

Your hair looks so beautiful!!! I knew about moisture but not about protein. I knew that you needed to eat protein to have great hair but I didn’t know about the protein IN the hair. I tried the glass thing and my hair stayed at the top and I really always assumed that it was just super fine. My cat and I tend to electrocute each other when we touch each other in winter, so I’m guessing that moisture is definitely something we need to pay attention to…
My hair is much shorter and thinner now – thank you menopause! That is my natural colour, so I really regret colouring it now. Growing it out is a pain and I keep giving up!
I have a super power that enabled me to not go back to dyeing my hair: extreme laziness!… When I think about spending an hour naked, standing in the bathroom, waiting for the dye to take, I suddenly don’t feel like dyeing anymore!… You need to do what makes you happy and if dyeing your hair does, then this is what you need to do. I’m sure that even thinner, your hair must look stunning. I’m also loosing some of my “stuffing”. I did my daughter’s hair the other day (I don’t do it often because she’s a bit feral and doesn’t care for beauty products) and she has 4 times the hair that I do… Even my tiny hands couldn’t cope with all that hair!…
