Johan Theorin books

I finished Swedish author Johan Theorin’s Öland Quartet, which I thoroughly enjoyed. They reminded me a lot of Peter May’s four Lewis books, set in the Outer Hebrides. Both of them deal with wild weather, harsh nature, an unforgiving island coastline, and crime.

Theorin’s books move back and forth from the 1890s – 1960s and the present day, giving the reader deep insight into how much Sweden has changed from a poor society to a rich one. The limestone quarries, logging, huge shipping industry and rural villages of Öland have given way to abandoned rural villages and tourist towns.

I am now reading The Asylum, which is not an Öland book, but so exciting! I have read them all in English because I found the first one in English in a charity shop.
