Not sure whether to laugh or cry…

At first I did not get the joke. When I did, I chuckled and then despaired.

The world seems to be in a mess. Environmentally, economically, geopolitically… The AI revolution is going to turn us upside down. Perhaps I am from the last generation that had a better life than our parents.

My grandparents lived through the Spanish Flu, the First World War, and the Second World War. My parents were born during the Great Depression and lived through the Second World War. They did not, however, receive global updates every second of every day about how bad things were EVERYWHERE.

The first radios in homes were in the 1920s and 1930s; before that, there were updates on global crises by letters and newspapers, which were not that frequent. These older generations were not constantly bombarded by messages encouraging overconsumption or pressure to look or eat a certain way. I wonder if the constant flood of global updates are contributing to the general feeling today that things are worse than they have been in a long time?
