Happy Thanksgiving to all my US readers

We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in the rest of the world (apart from Canada in October) but I see so many photographs on my feeds about such a happy day. I hope my US readers are all having the best Thanksgiving possible.

If it is anything like Christmas though, Thanksgiving can, for some people, probably bring recent losses, fractious family relationships, petty squabbles and loneliness to the forefront.

I have spent many Christmases and birthdays alone, due to travelling, divorce, and living in other countries. I found it easiest to think of them as just normal days, and spend them pampering myself, reading, watching favourite movies and eating my favourite foods. Nowadays I do celebrate with family and I love it but it can be rather exhausting, particularly because I am not a very social person.

Whatever you are feeling today, the choosing beggar below was not feeling very thankful…

  1. Some people just can’t accept charity is just that – charity. If they were going to host more people then they should have planned for the event and saved up for it all year instead of expecting others to foot the bill for them.

    1. People never cease to amaze me. I have stopped putting things up for free on our local online marketplace. People want me to pay for their petrol to come and get it, they want me to throw more things in to make it worth their while (…it’s FREE!), they want me to deliver to them (hours away sometimes). Now I book the local charity pickup where the charity picks my things up and sells in-store. They can have the hassle.
