This photograph was taken in my friend Jack McLeod’s garden, just outside the tiny Eastern Cape town where I was born and lived for most of my life. The area is called Salem and was the setting for part of author J.M. Coetzee’s Novel prizewinning book, Disgrace.

Jack is a dear friend of both myself and my family. He has showed extreme grace in tough times and is always ready to help a friend.

What gorgeous pictures!… What strikes me the most are the plants and how different they are. Even when I go from Norther Germany to Southern Spain, nature is so different. It must be so incredibly different going to South Africa with so many different species of plants. In yesterday’s map of Africa, we could see the vast area of green and I can only imagine all the beautiful plant species there must be!…
