I have a client who is usually pretty active, completing several fun-runs, themed runs, and women’s runs. She does yoga, Zumba, Pound etc. She is not a superfit athlete. She is in her mid-sixties and just tries to keep active. She also enjoys the social aspect of her activities. She always inspires me, because I have never been into exercise, apart from really enjoying swimming and walking.
The pandemic has been hard for her. She does online Zumba, and walks as much as she can but she misses the social activities and the motivation she gets from the group activities.
For the six months, however, she has been taking part in Conquerer Virtual Fitness Challenges. You can walk, cycle, or run certain distances. But instead of distances, they are destinations. You can do Route 66, Hadrians Wall, Mount Everest, the Grand Canyon, the Appalachian Trail, and many more. You receive digital postcards of places you pass on the way to your destination. At the end you receive a certificate and a medal.
At the moment, my client’s goal is to do the 2021kms in 2021. But for me, challenges like walking around the Kruger Park in South Africa, or the Inca Trail really lure me. I usually walk a lot during the course of a working day – between 10 000 and 25 000 steps. But now I am stuck at home too close to the snacks and not walking much at all. I think doing this would be very motivational and I really love that Kruger Park medal!
