English words that come from Old Norse

 

Did you know that English gets its words knife, husband, moped, ombudsman, tungsten and smorgasbord from the Swedish kniv, husbonde, moped, ombudsman, tungsten and smörgåsbord, respectively?

I think many people know that many English words come from German, Dutch and French. But the Viking invasion brought many Old Norse words down with it too.
