It seems that Paul Smith Swirls are like buses. You don’t see any for ages, and then suddenly they are everywhere!
One of these was an eBay bargain which appeared just a day after the super-duper Jaimielynn and the Gillio Facebook group did everything to find me a Swirl as they knew I wanted one, right up to the very special Linda offering to pay for it heself until the group could get me onto the boards to reply. This binder will be forever in my heart and very special.
One of my readers posted: The leather changes depending upon which season it was made. One year they use grainier leather, the next smooth. It’s the same with their handbags, purses ect. The brightness of the colouring will also change from season to season. The swirl pattern will be different on every binder as it’s dependant on the cut of the leather. I used to work for Paul Smith and my husband still does!
These pics will show how totally different two of the same binders can be. One is grainier than the other, and the Swirls are different. Which one do you prefer? Please vote on the poll at the bottom of this post!
I’d go for the one you like to touch the most. But I’m a texture gal. Returned a gorgeous Burnt Orange Calipso b/c the matte leather gave me goosebumps.
The swirls on 2, and the slenderness of 2 are visually attractive.

I am the exactly the opposite. I like the swirls on 1 and the grain on 2!
I like the grain on the first, but prefer the swirls on the second!

Both are beautiful. Silly question – do you have any idea how they are made? The patterns look like marbling, but I can’t imagine how one would go about marbling a piece of leather in such a way that the results would be remotely hardwearing. Similarly for painting the pattern on – difficult to see how the effect is achieved!
I actually have no idea but from what I can see they are not painted but they could be marbled with hardwearing dye, if that is possible?

I can´t vote – at first glance I preferred number 1, but then I saw the spine of number 2… and now number 2 is growing on me…
I have exactly the same problem. One minute I love the texture of number 1 but the swirl on number two. The next minute it is the other way round!
