When I compliment someone on a skirt or dress they often say ‘and look – it has pockets!!!’ I wonder why women’s clothing often has no pockets? Is it because it needs to fit closer to the body, with clean lines? Is it because women usually carry handbags? Or do we carry handbags because we have no decent pockets?
Men’s jeans often have much deeper and most useful pockets than women’s jeans. The women’s ones seem to be there more for show. And men’s pyjama bottoms almost always have pockets, while women’s pj bottoms do not.
I tried on this denim jacket recently, wondering why it was 75% off. When I put it on, I instinctively reached out to put my hands in the pockets, of which there were none. The only pockets were in a place where you don’t want weird bumps, and they were so awkward to get to. Plus – flaps?? At $15 it was a bargain because the denim was really nice, but not even I could get any use out of it.
