I weigh myself once a week and the three cats once a month. In three of my cats, sudden and sustained weight loss was an early indicator of health problems. Tusse and Paddy had hyperthyroidism, and Ziggy had tooth resorption. Picking it up early meant better outcomes for them.
Ages ago I had a spring scale and then I switched to digital. The last scale I bought was quite advanced – it connected to your phone via Wifi or Bluetooth, and recorded BMI, body fat, weight, heart rate. It could keep track of the three cats and my weights over time. However, I found it too fiddly and the app did not work well. To be fair, I did not pay much for it so I definitely got what I paid for. It was also bulky and ugly and the ‘feet’ made annoying noises.
It started malfunctioning a while ago with weights being inconsistent even after resetting and battery changes. So I decided to get a new one. For once, I shopped in brick-and-mortar stores and that made a huge difference. I settled for this Brabantia, which was on sale and I am so pleased with it.
The scale is neat, minimal and very lightweight. It has a large display which is stable, consistent and easy to read in all lighting. It is very low to the ground and the colour is much better for the bathroom than our previous black one. I can recommend. It cost about $19.99 though the full price would have been $30 or so.
