What is the difference between a fruit and a vegetable

Food can be very confusing.

A banana is a berry, while the plant from which it comes is a herb (read more here)
A peanut is a legume, not a nut
A cashew is the seed of an apple, not a nut. See above (and read more here)

Did you know that cashews grow as a seed at the bottom of the cashew apple? And that they are a seed not a nut?

Botanically, fruits and vegetables are classified depending on which part of the plant they come from. A fruit develops from the flower of a plant, while the other parts of the plant are categorized as vegetables. Fruits contain seeds, while vegetables can consist of roots, stems and leaves.
