South Africa Day 8 – Jeffreys Bay, Port Elizabeth

Today we left Tsitsikamma after breakfast and drove to Jeffreys Bay, the surf capital of South Africa. It is one of the five most famous surfing destinations in the world, and has been voted as having the second best surf in the world.

While in Jeffreys Bay we had coffee and bought t shirts at the Billabong factory shop. Many of the big surf brands have factory outlets in Jeffreys Bay – Roxy, Quiksilver, Billabong. Some of the outlets are enormous so you need to take time to browse. I got this t shirt, which says ‘Life’s better in Namibia’.

We left Jeffreys and drove on to Port Elizabeth, the city in which I grew up. When we got to Port Elizabeth we went to the Boardwalk for lunch, walked on the pier and then drove past all the beaches.

After that we went to my family and had a wonderful evening. My cousins all came over and we had a huge braai (barbecue) with lots of South African dishes – especially desserts! I had not seen any of my family for seven years so it was the most amazing evening!
