These giant snails are quite common in France and Spain too. They can measure up to 20cm. I once found one on.a bench in my garden and it was about 15cm long.
Don’t you have them in Sweden?
We have slugs in our garden after it rains, and they can get quite big. I am sure there are small snails but I can’t remember seeing any. I have never seen a giant one in Sweden. The biggest snail I have seen was nowhere near the size of your one!
Don’t tell me about slugs! They are everywhere. I utterly hate them as they damage my plants. I don’t mind snails though and I love eating them (not the giant ones of course!).
The bottom pic shows the snail looking very cuddly. Not a word I would normally associate with a snail.

I think most gardeners cannot stand them!
