Winter skin relief

Over my many winters in Sweden it has seemed to snow less and be warmer. One Christmas recently was warmer than midsummer (although that is not saying much). It is still a very cold country.

Over the week or so it has snowed a bit, and the temperature was below freezing. It was a bit slippery outsidey but the main problem was the cold wind. It makes my nose run and chaps my cheeks and lips. My skin gets so dry and my face feels like it is going to split.

I ended up with chapped, cracked lips and a sore under my right nostril. I layered on these bad boys and it was gone within a day. These balms – apart from Skin Food –  are not generally used as daily facial moisturisers as they are quite thick and heavy (though Skin Food is quite popular) and have no spf. But if you have sore, dry skin these fix it up in no time. I generally put a thick layer on in the evening and a tiny bit in the morning.

  1. Every winter, it’s the same struggle for me. I still haven’t found the right cream to keep my hands from turning into paper… I had tried skin food and I really didn’t like it because it left my hands (or my face) super greasy. I know there are two types of Skin Food and I got the least nourishing one but it was still too greasy. But all hope is not lost: I did find a cream that was meant for cow udders (yes, you read that right) and that seems to be working!… The farmers who were using it on their cows noticed that their own hands were very smooth after using the cream on the cows and decided to market it for humans.

    1. I woke up this morning with cracked heels. Everything on me is powder-dry at the moment! Sometimes I become desperate because it hurts!

Sheep cream is also very good if you are not allergic to lanolin. I have only found it in New Zealand though. I used to use Homeoplasmine but it was a bit heavy for daily use.

      1. I actually tried sheep soap and it was quite soft on my skin. I’m also becoming super dry when I used to be the opposite… What a curse!… The udder cream I am using is called Euter Pflege. I find it on the German Amazon. I’ll send you the link per email so that you can see what it looks like.
