Daughter from California syndrome

This made me sad for two reasons. Firstly because I recognise this syndrome from what friends have been through. And secondly because things like death and wills seem to bring out the worst in people. My mother used to say ‘where there is a will there is a relative.’ Awful relatives seem to come out of the woodwork at the prospect of money, but were often not there for the care and hard work at the end.

  1. I was there for my mum towards the end of her life, neither brothers turned up until she died. Unfortunately, the day she died I was 400 miles away picking up my daughter from her mum’s to have her for the summer.
