Skype is no more

I use the non-business version of Skype to call my mother, because it allows calls to ancient landline phones. So even after I moved over to Teams years ago, I still use Skype on a weekly basis, to ring my mother. With my siblings we use WhatsApp to audio or video call each other.

So I felt rather melancholy to be faced by this as I opened Skype this evening to ring Momzie.

This graphic really anthropomorphises computer applications but it warmed my suddenly cold and afraid heart. It puts the message across in such a lovely way.

  1. Big software companies develop apps to help connect us, then as they become more expensive to maintain and numbers of users dwindle they close them down. Never thinking why some people are still using them. I hope you can keep in touch with your mum another way Janet.
