Today marks the day when the Sun crosses the Earth’s equator, in its annual journey from north to south. It is the start of spring for southern hemisphere and the start of autumn for northern hemisphere. The September and March equinoxes also mark when the length of day and night are nearly equal all over the world.
Africa, straddling the equator almost equally on both hemispheres, has countries where spring starts today, and also countries where autumn starts today!
