Oy, with all this gender neutrality. Enough already. You are what you are.
We lost the second person singular: thou/thee/thine because it was felt to be too familiar using (ye)you/you/your instead.
Now we are likely to lose the third person singular in favour of the third person plural 😟
I can see it eventually going that way. Sweden has a gender neutral personal pronoun which is fairly recent but not many people use it. Estonian doesn’t have gendered pronouns at all. Interestingly, Sweden did away with more formal personal pronouns in the 1960s, but Afrikaans still has them.
