There are frequent articles in newspapers and magazines about how it is quite common for people to change their sheets once a year and wear their bras for a month. I also see articles saying how often you should change your toothbrush and toss your mascara.
I don’t usually take anything those articles say as hard and fast rules, and do things when I feel they need to be done. Because each day is different, I often do things when I have some time free, rather than on a specifica day.
My routines are generally
Daily
- shower
- remove makeup
- change underwear (including bras)
- change tops (jeans and trousers are every second or third wear)
- garbage out
- scoop cat litter
Twice weekly
- wash hair
- laundry
Weekly
- remove nail laquer and repaint nails
- shave
- change linen
- change bathroom towels
- change kitchen towels
- recycling
- big house clean
- sharpen eyeliner
- sharpen pencils
Fortnightly
- wash cat sandbox
- replace or wash all cleaning cloths
- refill cat food containers (we have storage containers in the kitchen and big bags of food in the store room)
Monthly
- decant medicines into a pillbox
- big shop of cleaning supplies
Every three months
- new toothbrush
- new mascara (although it is more likely to be every two months, or as soon as it gets dry and clumpy)
- replace filters in air purifier
Every six months
- take clothes in for altering and dry cleaning
- wash sofa blankets and curtains
Annually
- replace bras
- wash sofa covers
All are reasonable, although I do some more frequently. The only one I take exception to is the catbox: FORTNIGHTLY ? – no way. DAILY!
Ooh sorry, I should have clarified. Scooping, daily. Washing, fortnightly
That makes much more sense, although, because I had 3 cats I used to scoop daily and wash weekly
