I have always had a work week that started on Monday and finished on Friday afternoon. From Friday evening to Sunday was the week’s end/weekend. When I was living with my family, Sunday was church day, and Catholicism considers Sunday the first day of the week. Different religions have their religious days on different days – the Jewish Sabbath is on Saturday.
I need a calendar mostly for work, so Monday to Friday is important to me.It just seems natural to start a calendar week on the first working day of the week.
Looking at this map, it surprises me how many countries have a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, start. Is this purely for religious purposes? Do official buildings, banks, etc open as normal on Sundays? Or does the week run Monday to Friday as normal, even though the calendar starts on a Sunday.
The map also seems to show that Southern Africa has a Sunday start. Not that I am aware of. I did work mostly in education and academia though, so we had Monday to Sunday calendars.
Maybe this is only a problem for me because I am very planner bound and I like the first entry to be Monday.
