Clothing for the heat

One prerequisite for my travel clothing for hot weatheris that it is loose, light and can be washed at night and worn in the morning. Normally whatever I pack is crease resistant.

I always wear this t-shirt for inconvenient travel. Loads of people comment on it and it gets my feelings across perfectly

This is a handmade pure cotton empire-line dress that is so comfy in the heat. It has a built in ‘petticoat’, which is also light. The length is absolutely perfect. One person has stopped me to ask where I bought it.

A transparent swim top that is a perfect cover up to and from the beach. It does not prevent burning when the sun is sharp, so sunscreen is a must.

Flour sack long shorts that are so comfortable to wear in the heat. Everything I wear in hot weather has an elasticated waist

Wrap silk dress that dries in minutes in the heat

A gorgeous silk dress that washes and dries easily. I bumped into this friend, Janine, at a market. I had not seen her since we were in school together. It was such a wonderful surprise I almost burst into tears.

My trusty Me369 skirt that I have had for years. It has pockets and washes and dries like a dream. It does wrinkle a bit but that only matters to me when I am in the office.

This is a silk skirt that is made from recycled Indian saris. It is very light and washes and dries in a flash

An ancient nightgown from the 1950s that I have had for years. It is pure cotton with pink trim and tiny pink polka dots. It is not that attractive but perfect for hot weather.

This is a cotton dress that is really easy to wear. It is shorter than the skirts and dresses I normally wear (calf-length rather than ankle-length) but is rather flattering anyway.

Pink cotton flour sack trousers (though these are made from coffee sacks)

One of a kind ‘prairie pants’ which I bought during a hot spell.

Print leggings on a cooler misty day

Cotton paisley pyjama pants. I slept on top of the bed because it was too hot but then I got cool and rolled myself up in my husbands half of the covers! I always sleep in this position, despite the fact that it looks uncomfortable. My heels look awful from walking barefoot and in flip flops so much.

I mainly wore gold Ipanema

And these brown Billabong from the factory shop ($90 reduced to $9)
