Snösätra Grafitti Park, Stockholm

I have written before about Snösätra Graffiti Park in Stockholm. It is a huge abandoned industrial area where graffiti artists are given part of a wall for a few weeks to create street art. There is always something new to look at, and most of the artists are incredibly talented. Sometimes when you go there, there are loads of artists having a great time creating their art and helping each other.

I hate vandalistic graffiti, I detest scrawled tags on train carriages and city buildings. They are ugly and destructive. But this type of graffiti is genuinely art and I have seen it brighten up ugly underpasses and deserted areas. I wish more cities gave neglected, barren spaces to urban artists to create.

Upon a trip there a few weeks ago, there were some gorgeous works. But this time, sadly, taggers had destroyed many of the pieces. And even more sadly, this entire area is soon to be razed.
