Unlike most years lately, 2021 has seemed to drag on endlessly. I have been working from home since March 2020, with a few brief (probably four days total) forays into working in the field before the doors slammed shut again.
On the plus side, I can sleep one hour later every morning, and fit more meetings into each day. I can also do chores like the laundry and dealing with the dishwasher during brief breaks, meaning my weekends are much freer. I spend less money and use what I have.
On the minus side however is that I don’t get much exercise or fresh air, I miss the dynamic of meeting people face to face, and I have kind of let myself go. I have not put on weight but I have totally stopped wearing makeup, my roots get very long before I refresh my highlights, and I don’t buy clothes or shoes.
A couple of days ago I went to get my third vaccination and treated myself to coffee and a planning session while I waited. It was nice to sit (at a distance) and people-watch. I am still in my vintage Van Der Spek, previously owned by André Van Der Spek. I replaced all the South African pages because they just made me sad. I have also demarcated all holidays, birthdays, anniversaries and special days next year, usually with washi tape.
Because I only use my vertical week-on-two-pages calendar for work, I use washi tape to make sure I don’t accidentally book something in on one of these days.
We have had to cancel our trip to South Africa. I understand, of course, but I was devastated. I have not seen my family for four years.
Instead we will be going to stay in a little apartment in Tenerife for a week, if everything is safe. I need to get away and some sun. Work is home and home is work right now so just a few days away will mean the world to me.
