I don’t like seeing animals in captivity but most of these animals have been rescued from terrible situations by Big Cat Rescue and could never survive in the wild. I am so grateful to the work organisations like these do. And how they love their boxes! Seems it is a cat thing, no matter the size of the cat or the box!
A game reserve near my home in South Africa, Shamwari, has a special Born Free sanctuary within the game reserve for rescued circus lions, where they can live out their lives in freedom. You can follow the diaries of the individual big cats here here. Being Africa, the spaces they have to roam are enormous and not the small enclosures you see above, but they are still separated from the main reserve where the animals live in absolute freedom, because animals born in captivity would not survive in the wild.
