Fluffy’s Quirks

Sleeping on his back in his hammock

My one cat, Fluffy, is the weirdest cat I have ever been owned by. He is stubborn and bloody-minded about getting his own way.

Since the day he arrived he has only eaten fish (despite the fact that when we went to collect him he was face-down in a large bowl of the cheapest cat food available, scarfing it down as though there was no tomorrow). The vet said ‘just don’t feed him fish – if he is really hungry he will eat anything’. Famous last words. He just would not eat. In the end the vet admitted defeat and four years later he is still eating only fish.

He will chew through boxes, suitcases and anything he wishes to get into. Our electrical cables are so well protected it is almost unbelievable. He hates the vacuum cleaner and burrows as deep as possible into my pile of bedlinen to avoid it. He climbs up doors to sleep in the highest cupboards we have – at ceiling height. He plays fetch like a dog.

He also drags around an old shopping bag to sleep in. He takes it to wherever he wants to, and then curls up in it. If you move it, he will drag it back to where he wants it to be.

He dragged his sleeping bag to under an umbrella I had lying in the living room

Sleeping in my shoe bag
Sleeping on my shoes (which he collects in a pile)
In his sleeping bag outside the bathroom
Chewed his way in from the top right hand corner
Attacking my stores of tissue paper
Drinking out of the toilet
Chasing bananas, empty bottles and paper towel
Lying in wait for the postman

In the fridge (which is now very securely fastened)
In the bathroom basin
Helping me pack for a trip
In his hammock
Sleeping on the TV
A bump under the covers while I am vacuuming
Holding onto Paddy’s tail
In the bathmat
Fluffy has never met a box he didn’t love
