Boredom

I was a big reader when I was young, so I was very seldom bored. If I did complain to my mother that I was bored she would tell me to go and play outside.

If I was bored, I would sit with those uncomfortable feelings for a bit and then go and do something. Nowadays I think it would be nice if we did have more boredom, because everything is 24/7 and sometimes it becomes too much without a second of breathing space. I am not a fan of being bored, but it is nice in a way to be able to be bored.

One of my biggest issues, though – with beauty products, jewellery, clothing, accessories, planner covers, food – is that when I love something, I use it all the time. Then suddenly I find I just cannot face it for another day. I am so bored with it. So I switch. And then some time later I rediscover my original favourite.

It would be so nice if I could just use the same handbag/rings every day for twenty years until it wears out, and then get another one. I did, after all, wear a school uniform for twelve years. Why can’t I do this? Do any of my readers use/eat something every day for years without getting bored? I wonder if this is a woman thing rather than a man thing? Because women are constantly being bombarded in media with new fashion, new products, new looks.
