Essie’s Ballet Slippers

Essie’s Ballet Slippers is my favourite nail polish of all time. It is subtle, delicate, and suits all skin tones and seasons. It’s like the Black Honey of nail colours – a light veil of white and pink that adds extra polish without being in your face. Like Black Honey, you can add layers to deepen the colour from a milky pink veil of colour to a deeper wash of colour. The late Queen Elizabeth II wore it, and it has been going since 1982 so it must be popular. I like that chips and wear don’t show because the colour is milky sheer.

I also bought a pale yellow for my summer toes.

My second favourite of all time is Clothing Optional, also by Essie.

It’s a darker neutral. If I want a pop of colour, I paint one nail on each hand a different shade.

My best friend in South Africa also loves nail colour, and so does my niece. When we go away together, we paint each others’ nails. These moments are so precious to all of us and I treasure every one of them. The pastel colours on the bottom right of the photo are London Grace and they are so pretty.
