Cat Corner

This is my little cat corner. It contains two gorgeous photographs gifted to me by the wonderful Nastassja, after Fluffy and Ziggy died. Beside it are the little urns with memorial discs recording names and dates.

People mourn and find comfort in different ways. I have a client who lets the vet dispose of her cats. My bonus mother has buried all her pets in a special place in her garden for almost 60 years. A friend plants a tree in a pot in which she places the ashes. I have scattered one cat’s ashes in his favourite sunny patch in the garden. All those who have passed in Sweden are in urns on my shelf so they can come with us when we move.

I find strange comfort in having them near although I know they are gone. When my parents died I was young and traumatised and when I was much older I discovered that their ashes were thrown away. Perhaps that is partly why I cling to these.
