Remembering them

In the past I have written many times about Crazy Wolf of Blygedacht, the beautiful Boerboel owned by Miriam Koopen.

Sadly, he passed away suddenly a month ago, at the age of eight. It was devastating news and I have found myself unable to write about it until now. He was a beautiful dog and very much loved. My thoughts go out to his family at this terrible time.

Another dog I have written about several times was Arthur, the stray dog who followed a sports team to the end of a race in Ecuador and was adopted by the team leader. He passed away in December 2020, after six wonderful years with his Swedish family.

When things like this happen, I am always so sad that animals outlive us. They leave such huge holes behind them.

We rushed our Fluffy to the vet over Easter, fearing that this would be it. A combination of COVID-19 and the long weekend meant that all the emergency animal hospitals were either closed or overfull. Instead of waiting the 12 hours that we would need to, we brought him home and gave him antibiotics, painkillers, and bathed his abscess ourselves. We had unopened medicine at home as this is the 7th time it has happened. This was not what we would have chosen but it worked. He is completely healed and is wombling along as normal. We are, as always, taking it day by day.

My thoughts go out to all who reads this who has lost an animal or is dealing with a sick furry family member. I love all animals, even yours.

  1. We lost two wonderful Labs prematurely and though it’s been a couple of years they are missed every day. Oliver and Sadie were a pair of best friends to each other and to us. A couple of big doofs but a truly loving pair. I am somewhat of an animist and I believe we’ll all be reunited someday.

    1. He’s doing pretty well at the moment. All healed up and wobbling around happily. We are so grateful for every single day we have with him. He is the friendliest, most loving, cuddliest cat I have ever had. Always happy and hungry, no matter how much pain he is in.
