We bought an apartment!

My husband and I have been looking for a new apartment for a while now.

Stockholm has a huge housing crisis with queues for rental apartments being decades (read my article here), and property prices skyrocketing, so we decided to take our time buying. We have been living in his apartment in Södermalm (I rent out my apartment) and we like the area, so we decided to look for an apartment nearby.

We wanted a flat near the water, and with a balcony, elevator, bathtub, office for me, place to park our Harley Davidson, dishwasher, washing machine, and overnight apartments for guests. We also wanted somewhere where the cats could go outside. Both our apartments have communal basement laundry rooms but no washing machines in the apartment itself. This one has five communal laundry rooms but also a washer in the apartment for small daily loads. It has two overnight apartments for guests, which can be rented per night. The only thing that really needs to be done is renovation to the bathroom.

Every single apartment that came up had one or the other but not all of them. Until we found this beauty, which ticked all the spots on the list. We bought it a couple of weeks ago, and are moving in in April!

It is on Hammarby Canal, a few metres from the water and minutes from the underground. It is about ten minutes walk from where we are living now and has lots of space for the cats.

  1. Congratulations and best wishes for a home full of many good times! I’m intrigued though …I’ve never heard of overnight apartments (I live in an apartment in Sydney).

    1. They are really nice. This apartment building has two self-contained two-bedroom apartments (both have lovely kitchens) which you can rent for a very low daily rate if you have visitors. There is also a party venue which is really nice – you can rent it for parties, club meetings etc.

  2. It’s stunning, Janet! It’s so nice to imagine you living in such a light and airy place with the myriad charming touches. Congratulations!
