  1. The word describes not just pet cats but also the big ones. It’s believed to originate from the ancient greek word “ailouros” (αίλουρος), a composite word from “aiolos” (αίολος) which means “wind” and “oura” (ουρά) which means “tail”. It roughly translates to “animal whose tail is moved fast”. Personally I would name cats as “extremely cute animal that wins you over without trying”.
