Brown Filofax Burlington in personal size

I am so thrilled with this find, which happened yesterday.

I am a teacher, so my term bookings go from August one year to July the following year. I was looking for inserts for the 2019/2020 academic year so that I can complete my bookings. I usually use the Filofax vertical week on two pages until December, at which time I can switch into my beloved Burde inserts, which run from January to December.

There were none on the increasingly pitiful insert shelf. Hardly any shops sell Filofaxes these days and the range of inserts is very small. I sighed, lowered my eyes, and there it was…

…a glorious brand new vintage brown Filofax Burlington from the late 1990s. I didn’t realise what it was until I opened it. It had a 75th anniversary edition card in one of the pockets. I have only ever seen one of these in a Grace Scurr anniversary edition. The inside was pristine, though the outside had some scuffs, probably from shelf wear and also being transported from pillar to post. The price tag was old.

I took it to the counter and they told me that the price tag was from something else (it was a very old tag and from another shop), that there was no bar code, and that the binder was not in their system, so they sold it to me as office supplies for $20.

As soon as I got it home I moved straight into it. This binder has the same layout as the newer exotic Filofaxes (alligator, ostrich, lizard) before they discontinued them, and the leather is incredibly soft. It is going to patina like a dream!
