Kerning and Keming

In typography, kerning (less commonly mortising) is the process of adjusting the spacing between characters in a proportional font, usually to achieve a visually pleasing result (Wikipedia).

Okavango in South Africa is a particularly difficult word to kern correctly, as are all words with an AV or VA combination in them. You can see in the sign below that the AVA part is differently kerned from the rest.

And keming is the result of improper kerning. The word keming is what the word kerning looks like when kemed. Here are some examples of keming.

  1. What is wrong with the Man Hole open one? A man hole is a hole in the road normally an entrance to the drainage system covered in a heavy metal round plate that is held in place just by the weight of the cover.
