Four months in pocket size – a great success

I have been in my black Van Der Spek Touch Me leather pocket/junior binder for a couple of months now, and in pocket size for twice as long. I am flabbergasted at how much it suits me and how happy I am in this size. I never thought I would be able to downsize from personal, particularly as I have two jobs and also use my binder as a wallet and blog scheduler. This binder also only has 16mm rings instead of the larger 20mm rings. But I could not wish for anything better.

The first reason this system is so successful is that both the pocket-sized binders I have used thus far have been a) without stiffener, so they mould around the inserts and cards and b) well designed for use as a wallet, with multiple credit card slots and a zippered pocket for coins and other bits and bobs.  If they had been stiff with a more minimal pocket constellation, it would not have been possible.

The second reason is that I don’t need to write much in my binder. Just initials for client meetings, and one or two words per line in my lists. I don’t need to make long notes.

And the third reason is that the binder is so small and light that I can take it with me everywhere. It is more the size of a regular wallet or purse, so I can slip it in a pocket or a smaller handbag.

I am in love with the Touch Me binder! It is so nice and shiny and soft and smooshable. It is also in the old black Touch Me leather which I love so much.

The ‘mark’ on the bottom left is a reflection of my camera. That is how glossy this binder is!
Typical lists for a week
Typical bookings. I am not neat and use whatever pen is near at hand. Days where I teach the same thing all day just have a line drawn through them. I don’t schedule much during the weekend though this Saturday I had the communal laundry booked, a Eurovision party to go to and I was having my brows done!

  1. So Janet, you moved with success to the Pocket size in March and to a beautiful VDS TM in April. What are your feelings about using that size? Do you confirm that after 3 months you still love it and find that size convenient for every day planning?
I am about to only use my pocket VDS (and not my usual personal + pocket) as I’ll be off work and traveling for 10 weeks and I don’t want to carry a heavy planner around.
Your opinion and advice are always more than welcome, Janet!

    1. I still love it so much! My only regret is that I didn’t start using this size sooner! It fits everything but is so compact and easy to carry. I can take it everywhere with me!

  2. Hi love your setup! Thanks for sharing! I also use a picket size that I can keep in my handbag. My personal stays home. I love your vertical inserts. Who are they by?

  3. I have also used pocket size for more than 6 months without interruption. Less and less accurate of larger sizes (only for information).

  4. Since I read your original post I’m now enjoying my Finsbury pocket which had been in its box for well over 5 years. I’m finding more pleasurable ways to use it, so thanks for that. Plus, I think a Touch Me is going to be a definite purchase this year! All those lovely pockets! Thank you.

  5. Thank you for sharing. I almost make me consider using a pocket. But the way you use it, makes me rethink how I use my personal. Mabey I can downsize it a little bit.
