Many decades ago, my mother worked in the Fry’s chocolate factory in Keynsham. She told a story of a visiting dignitary who once asked her “At what point is the Eastern Promise added to the Turkish Delight?”
Mindful that the advertising in those days used the tag line “Fry’s Turkish Delight – full of Eastern Promise!”, she replied “I think that is something best left to the imagination…”
I love FRY’s Turkish Delight too, but the modern bar in England is Americanised within an inch of it’s life. Personally, I can no longer taste the once distinct flavour of rose, but maybe that’s my age, although I would rather believe that it’s because the Americans (Kraft) have taken over.

I adore Turkish Delight. I blame it on ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ by C.S. Lewis. If someone could be so enamoured by turkish delight that they would betray their family, then it must be very, very good. It took a few years before I got to taste it (the Australian Frys version), and I love it still in every version. I am looking forward to the easter egg version again this year.
