Report back on Lipault Eye Mask

I have previously written about my Lipault Sleep Mask here. I was so looking forward to trying it out, because I hoped it would a solution to my own personal hell of Sweden in summer, where it is light 24/7 and I cannot sleep.

Once I am asleep, I sleep pretty soundly. But getting to sleep is problematic. I cannot sleep if it is light or noisy or hot. So I wear silicone earplugs and have the radiators off in the bedroom even when it is cold outside.

Light is a much bigger problem because I don’t get on with regular sleep masks, and it is light all the time in summer in Sweden. I have blinds between the triple panes in my windows, blackout curtains and then regular curtains. But the light still sneaks in.

Regular travel or sleep masks have plastic in them to block out the light and they make me sweat. The ones that just have cloth are ineffectual and are still too tight against my eyes. I know the mask is there and if I wake up in the night, I cannot open my eyes. I don’t like the mask right against my eyes. If I loosen it to prevent this, it falls off or light sneaks in around the edges.

So the Lipault mask seemed like a good idea. It is light, neoprene (no sweat problems), adjustable and has convex eye covers so they don’t press on your eyelids.

After about a month I can say I LOVE IT! I love it so much I bought two more in case they stop making them (as seems to happen to everything I like).

It doesn’t make me sweat, fits snugly against my face while not pressing into my face, is comfortable, and best of all – I can open my eyes (which I tend to do as I try to fall asleep) and it just feels as though I am opening my eyes while I am in a dark room. It makes it feel as though it is naturally dark, as opposed to being the unnatural darkness of a piece of cloth against your eyes. I cannot express what a difference having nothing on my eyes makes to me.

This sleep mask has made a huge difference to me during the summer. I don’t dread going to bed. I know I will sleep and sleep well. I know the light will not bother me.

The only thing you need to remember is to make sure the work Lipault is outwards when you put it on because if it is not, the Velcro will stick to your hair and that is not comfortable. The Velcro also, as you can see of the well-used purple one above, attracts fluff.

  1. Glad you like them, and really glad they help you sleep, but I will just say what keeps jumping into my mind at looking at that picture… 🙂
they do look like my favorite bra 🙂
(but if I ever need a sleeping mask, they certainly will pop up first in my brain now)
