The area I come from in South Africa is a farming area which has largely moved over to Big Five game reserves where tourists can enjoy a malaria-free adventure, unlike in larger game reserves a little further north, where malaria is rife.
Below you can see double fencing all along the national road between two towns. This is lion fencing, so if you have a car accident and go through the first fence, there is still another fence protecting you from the lions in the park.
And here is a photograph taken by my friend Helen, showing a herd of elephants going for a walk.
It makes me so homesick for home, a place where things like this are part of your days as you drive from place to place. I love living in a big city in Europe but I get really homesick for life in rural Africa!
