One of my most comfortable and pretty armwear is traditional Sami jewellery, made from reindeer skin, pewter and naturally shed reindeer antlers. They are available in lots of different colours and widths and sometimes there is also boiled wool in the mix. The Sami are the indigenous people of Lapland, living within the Scandinavian Arctic circle. They have lovely handicrafts (bags, boots, bowls, mugs, knives, jewellery) in wood, bone, leather and pewter.
The pewter is generally 4% sterling silver and the more pewter in the design, the heavier and more expensive the bracelet will be. They are all very very comfortable though – the ones I have you can barely feel.
Because I have very small wrists and mix my bracelets, I usually buy mine from Voss & Kompani in Stockholm, where I can try them on, see how they work with my other armwear, and have a nice cup of coffee at the same time. Voss & Kompani have a website (Swedish only) but their shop allows you to try them on, compare them and also search through their catalogue
Internationally there are many places that sell Sami jewellery, all over the world. My favourite of all is Tjekija’s Design on Etsy, where the possibilities are endless. She does double-wrap bracelets, charm bracelets, all kinds of leather and custom work. Her items, photographs and service are brilliant, she ships worldwide AND she is Scandinavian!
People do ask when I have it uncovered. I don’t mind talking about it but not unless they ask 🙂 I have six tattoos – here are some of them http://thisbugslife.com/2013/11/30/my-tattoos/ Yours sound fascinating! Love the sound of the sun one!
OMGOSH! Really??? Is it ever anything you talk about? I would love to hear all about it. I am always so interested in other countries and what it was like for people who lived there. One of my best friends is Labanese but grew up in Jordan and I always ask him stuff.
I have 3 tats as well; I have an American Indian Tribal band around my Right Ankle, I have a big Tribal Sun on my low back otherwise known as a Tramp Stamp LOL, and then I have a huge Butterfly with swirls and hearts and stars that takes up my whole left side.
I didn’t know you had a tat? I could only see a portion of it, what is the rest?
Yes I have quite a few actually. This one is the reason I wear cuffs and broad bracelets. It is a South African apartheid era prison number.
