Altered BOOK, Secret POISON STORAGE. Original book cover from 1600. Intact book clasp. Pages bonded into a solid block & cut. 11 drawers & 1 open compartment. Silver & Stained wood details. Latin poison labels (Rhicinus, datura, belladonna, valerian, etc.). Glass bottle labeled “Statutum est hominibus semel mori” (A man is destined to die once) Hebrews 9:27. Engraving of a standing skeleton, dated “1682”

    1. Oh Steve I had the best laugh at that! I am glad I am not predictable 🙂 No it is not my latest purchase and won’t be. Real books are more of a temptation to me! Although I am a great fan of Lucrezia Borgia and I would imagine she had something like this….

      1. There are many female poisoners to be found in research on the net, but none match the charismatic Lecrezia. I have a fascination with antique “poison rings”, and there are many modern reproductions to be found on Ebay these days. Something strangely romantic about them. Maybe I watched too many Hammer horror films as a boy?

  2. That is sinister, yet cute. I sometimes wonder at the things I like, no wonder I have a reputation as being a little eccentric. However, just being a reader is regarded as eccentric in some quarters, so I can live with it.
