My two favorite Boerboels – Crazy Wolf and Veiligplek Crespo

These pictures show them both from the side.

You can see that they show the variation in the breed. There are usually four types of Boerboel in terms of body type – Mastiff, Bulldog, Terrier and Hound. They are all Boerboels but can be bred from one end of the spectrum to the other. Some of the huge mastodon Boerboels are too big and heavy to work all day so the ones that are closer to the original working farm breed tend to be somewhat lighter and more muscular with smaller heads and less jowl.

Here are my two favorites – to me they encapsulate what the breed is about. Top photo is Crazy Wolf (to the left), owned by Miriam Koopen of Blygedacht Boerboele. He was appraised second in the Netherlands and is just under two years old. The bottom photo is Veiligplek Crespo owned by Dimitris Efthimiou of Boerboels Greece and he is just two years old. You can see that these are dogs born and bred to work and move. When Crespo runs you can hear his feet on the ground like a horse. Beautiful!
